What is a mental breakdown? Mental breakdown is an abnormal psychological state that occurs when the human body is severely impacted or in a state of depression and anxiety for a long time. The symptoms of mental breakdown mainly manifest in three aspects: emotions, cognition, and behavior.
1. Emotions: During a mental breakdown, there may be a significant change in temperament, which varies from person to person. The main manifestations include extreme emotional excitement, laughter, crying, extreme tension, fear, inability to suppress emotions, and emotional apathy such as depression and numbness;
2. Cognition: generally manifested in three aspects: perception, language, and memory. It can lead to cognitive disorders such as thinking disorders, visual and auditory hallucinations, gibberish, answering irrelevant questions, memory confusion, sensitivity and suspicion;
3. Behavior: Abnormal behaviors such as shouting, running away impulsively, running around, urinating everywhere, smashing objects without reason, and injuring others may occur. In severe cases, self harm or suicide may occur. It can also be manifested as hunger strike, daydreaming, silence, and even stiff behavior such as muscle tension and immobility throughout the body.
When experiencing symptoms of mental breakdown, one should actively seek medical attention or assistance from others, seek professional medical help, and actively undergo psychological and medication treatment to prevent the deterioration of mental state and irreversible consequences.
