Can dogs eat grapes
Can dogs eat grapes?Dogs are not allowed to eat grapes. Dogs have different digestive functions than humans. Not all fruits are allowed, such as grapes and raisins. If grapes or raisins are consumed in excess, for example, 10 to 15 grams of grapes per kilogram of body weight, dogs can experience severe toxic reactions. This is because dogs consume different amounts of grapes depending on their body weight and because of individual differences. Therefore, not every dog that eats grapes will be poisoned.
Dogs are not allowed to eat grapes. If dogs ingest large quantities, they may develop acute renal failure within 24 to 72 hours, which in severe cases can be life-threatening. Because the seeds in grapes contain an ingredient called hydride, excessive consumption by dogs can easily lead to hydride poisoning.
Clinical signs of poisoning include oliguria, polyuria or hematuria. Within a few hours, vomiting and diarrhea may also occur, at which point, no longer eating, feeling lethargic, breathing getting weaker and weaker, eventually leading to renal failure and death. Therefore, pet owners must pay attention to this when raising their dogs.
In addition to grapes, avocados are not suitable for dogs. Not only avocado meat, but also the kernels and trees are toxic to dogs, which can lead to symptoms such as difficulty in breathing, rapid heart rate, arrhythmia, and shock caused by fluid buildup in the chest, abdomen, and heart. Eating cherries can also cause the same symptoms as avocados with gastrointestinal symptoms, which can lead to adverse reactions such as vomiting and diarrhea, and overdose can lead to death. Then there's pineapple and mango. Mangoes themselves have a high rate of sensitization, so they are not recommended for dogs.
Dogs can eat fruits such as apples, bananas and watermelon, but only in small amounts. If diarrhea or vomiting occurs, it is recommended to stop eating immediately.
