How long to cook a turkey?The time it takes to roast a turkey depends largely on the size of the turkey and the temperature of the oven.

Size of turkey and time required

A 4-pound turkey: needs to roast for about 1 hour and 30 minutes.

An 8-pound turkey: needs to roast for about 2 hours and 30 minutes.

A 12-pound turkey: needs to roast for about 3 hours and 30 minutes.

14-pound turkey: needs to roast for about 4 hours and 2 hours.

Oven Temperature and Roasting Method

Oven Temperature: Usually preheated to 400 degrees Fahrenheit (about 204 degrees Celsius).

Roasting Method: You can roast the turkey for 45 minutes on one side, then flip it over and roast for another 60 minutes. Finally, test the temperature of the turkey legs and breast with a thermometer to make sure they reach 175 degrees F (about 79 degrees C) and 160 degrees F (about 71 degrees C).

Preparing and marinating the turkey

Thawing: The turkey needs to be thawed in the refrigerator for a time that depends on its weight. For example, a turkey weighing less than 10 pounds will take 24 hours, while a turkey weighing less than 20 pounds will take 48 hours.

MARINATION: The turkey can be marinated in pre-mixed flavored water for 24-48 hours. Seasonings such as salt, brown sugar, black pepper, peppercorns, rice wine and rosemary can be added to the water.

Drying : The marinated turkey needs to be dried in the refrigerator for 24 hours until the skin is completely dry.
