What is vinyasa yoga
What is vinyasa yoga?Vinyasa yoga is a form of yoga that places great emphasis on movement and flow. This form of yoga links various poses together.
Vinyasa yoga has several benefits as it trains the practitioner to maintain balance between holding and changing poses. It is flexible and adaptable. Because it focuses on movement and breathing, it builds muscle strength and resistance during exercise as well.
Vinyasa is actually a combination of two Sanskrit words, VI and nyasa, Vi meaning different or change, and Nyasa meaning “in a process”, so Vinyasa Yoga is a yoga practice that focuses on adopting specific poses and changing poses according to the body's natural state.
Vinyasa Yoga has three elements
Flow
Vinyasa yoga is a “flow” yoga, known for its duration. In the traditional form of yoga, the practitioner is required to adopt specific postures or “poses” and hold them for long periods of time.
Transitions
Transitions are the best element that separates yoga from other types of yoga.Vinyasa yoga transitions do not only mean changing from one pose to another. There is an element of grace and fluidity. This means that transitions need to flow naturally, regardless of speed. For example, the flow from bottom dog style to top dog style.
In this flow, start in high and move into low dog style. After a few seconds in dog pose, slowly exhale and move forward while lifting your chest and lowering your hips. All this happens in a smooth and seamless process.
Ujjayi
Ujjayi is the breathing technique of Vinyasa Yoga. It is done by inhaling slowly through the nose and exhaling slowly through the mouth. It is rhythmic, in the sense that it synchronizes with certain moments in the yoga flow.
Another distinguishing feature of Vinyasa Yoga is its variety. Most forms of yoga have set asanas and sequences. Flow yoga has no predetermined sequence. Hence, the flow yoga's change from day to day.
What are the benefits of Vinyasa Yoga
Improves Flexibility
People often confuse flexibility and mobility as being the same, unlike mobility, which is the free movement of a joint along its natural axis of rotation or joint axis. In other words, a person demonstrates mobility by being able to actively occupy a position. Flexibility is the ability of muscles and other tissues to passively elongate.
There is no movement component to flexibility. This is why all types of yoga improve flexibility. When it comes to Vinyasa, mobility is also improved due to its active component. Practitioners utilize the flexibility developed in Vinyasa yoga to move more freely.
Improved cardiovascular health
The relaxation of the nervous system produces more relaxed blood vessels. Blood circulation improves as the blood vessels relax. With improved circulation comes better heart health.
Improved Muscle Tone and Strength
In Vinyasa Yoga, muscles are required to guide the body through specific planes of motion and hold poses. This leads to improvements in muscle tone and isometric strength.Vinyasa yoga is a safe and healthy way to train muscles to hold tension, which aids in the development of strength and structure.
The Vinyasa flow will consist of three phases - initial poses, transitions and final poses. The poses will be repeated, the
